Save photos directly to Shroomok website via Discord Bot
Hello and welcome
This is a quick tech update on what was done for Shroomok project during past few weeks.
Let's start from simple!
LightBox — convenient way to look through article images
If you've are not new to Shroomok, you've got to remember that each picture was opening in a new browser tab. Nobody blamed me for that :) however such behaviour could annoy users.
Finally, I've installed free version of LightBox script which gives an opportunity to slide through all photos within article with no need to leave the page. Simple? Yes. Сomfortable? Hope so!
Shroomok Gallery & Tags
Mushroom Gallery finally shipped!
Here you can find and go trough all (810 at the moment) photos that have been used on a website. Beautiful, isn't it?
UPD: There are 4100 photos at the moment
Link to the new section can be found in the top of sidebar menu.
To make navigation simpler, I suggest to use hashtags section which you can find at the bottom of Gallery page.
It's still a bit messy because photos were tagged automatically (based on titles).
P.S. You always can take a part and make Shroomok better — just drop me a message in Shroomok Discord :)
UPD: Hooray! All tags are now verified and organized into two main categories:
- Explore the Mushroom Genetic Tree — a massive graph featuring over 100 mushroom categories: species -> strains -> hybrids/crosses/isolations.
- Check out the Guide Graph Gallery, which includes photo examples of every step in the growing process. This graph also covers common issues, including both contamination and non-contamination problems.
Discord Bot to upload your photos on Shroomok website
Last, but not the least.
I love Shroomok Discord community, I love Shroomok website too. I love the idea to integrate them as tightly as possible.
This year, some of you already shared own experience here, on a website. Users with 'writer' role are able to login into Shroomok and write articles. Fantastic! It was a first brick in a bridge between Discord and Web.
From now our community got a new cool member - ShroomokBot!
Birthday was a bit painful, PHP & WebSockets probably not the best friends, but who cares? I've built my first Discord Bot, who I believe, will become a real game changer!
Thanks to DiscordPHP community and, especially, to Robert Snedeker who didn't give me up in hard moment :)
Purpose is to build a grand gallery with tagged photos of harvest, different strains, species, contaminants, equipment, ideas, problems, solutions and so on. Our Discord already packed with tons of cool stuff which can be super usable after some classification job!
ShroomokBot can help with the part of this process. Click on a message with photos you'd like to upload on Shroomok.com, choose 'Apps' -> 'Save to shroomok.com'. Square window with 3 inputs will pop up. Fill the title, description, tags and push 'Submit' button
If everything's good, ShroomokBot will respond with a huge thanks and URL where you can find just added images!
A few moments later it will appear in main Shroomok gallery!
Currently, it's in testing mode so only I can use it. The optimistic plan is to grant permissions on bot to every Discord member, but it needs some preparation first.
UPD: Some members already have permissions for the bot, and it's working well!
