@Billeevit, metabolites mainly appear in water pools on the cake, try to avoid it. Here are 2 options for your choice.

1) Mild metabolites is not a problem, so you can leave them. Wait till harvesting, harvest your shrooms, then make rehydration (soaking) mushroom cake in water. So that, you wash metabolites and rehydrate the cake for the new flush.

2) You can use paper towel and apply it to absorb excess of moisture and metabolites. But be gentle, it's easy to irritate or even damage mycelium tissue and bruises appear.

Good luck and have a great harvest!

I have a pool of mycopiss in a low area of my
Coco layer in my monotub. My GT has just started fruiting and looks healthy otherwise.
Should I leave it there or soak it up with paper towel ?

You did NOT screw up, I consider that 24 hour idea debunked mythology. Anyone who has ever done any spore work with a microscope knows the dry spores fully hydrate in minutes if not seconds, they do NOT need 24 hours, haha. I've made plenty of spore syringes where I did not wait at all between creating the syringe and injecting it to grain jars, and they worked perfectly. In fact I would actually RECOMMEND using them as fast as possible, why give any potential contam a chance to grow, just get it on grain as soon as possible and get it into an incubator.

I am interested and worried about your comments regarding making a spore syringe and needing to let the spores 'soak' a minimum of 24 hours in the syringe. I just tried to start a Natalensis grain inoculation from spores BUT I inoculated immediately after scraping the spores into sterilized water. I hadn't read and thought about the spores needing to 'soak.' It's my newbiest first attempt.

It's been two days since injection into the grain. Did I screw the pooch?

Thank you for the excellent information. I had massive contamination and have been dealing with it for months. This really helped me get the resources I need to get my contaminations under control. You're right it sucks when you notice your guys are infected. Thanks for the comprehensive help. Awesome.

I think you need to be more clear and concise about it's very confusing you have a bunch of extra information in there that you don't need to have and so therefore the conclusion is we we still have a bunch of unanswered questions

@Aaron
1) Try to gain pressure in a PC slower. Be sure jars do not knock against each other during sterilization process. Let the PC cool down before opening.
2) After inoculation with spore syringe it takes 5-15 days for the first signs of mycelium.
3) Dry grain test: when the jar tilted or shaken slightly, the grains crumble and move easily, like in a baby rattle.
What to do in this case? Sometimes adding sterile water with syringe through inoculation port (15-20 ml) can help.
4) One more reason of zero growth is possible contamination. Check the jars for any signs of powdery bright colored mold growth and check the smell through the air filter (or open one of the jars to check the smell) for bacterial contamination (sweet-sour-cider-rotted smell).

Photos of your jars would be helpful in identifying the problem. To get quick feedback/consultation join Discord/Reddit/BuyMeACoffee. Links below (in the footer)

I followed your instructions closely and used mason jars with lids, filters, and injection port. I properly hydrated and sterilized the rye grain. I had some trouble sterilizing the jars in the pressure cooker and had to start it over a couple of times, and about half of my jars broke during the process. Yes, I had the protector on the bottom of the PC as well. This is my problem. After injecting the spores, I see no growth at all after over a week. I think I may have dried out my grain in the PC. Is there any fix to this problem that you can advise?

You talk about metabolites being "clear color", while showing a picture of amber colored fluid. Then scrolling down, you talk about amber colored wet bubble disease.

The more and more I look into how all of you are growing these things, I notice none of you actually knows 100% what you're talking about. Just a bunch of guessing with success, and then all of you preach that your way is the only way.

Its fungus... its mold.. mold easily grows. it's not rocket science, and none of you really knows what you're doing.

@Cat O’Rourke you have just 2 shrooms on your mushroom cake?
I need more details about your growing process, cultivation tek, what strain?

Found a better filter; MERV 16 (HEPA's are rated at MERV 17) - this one has the same form factors as the ones you posted too, including thickness

Found a higher rated filter that might work better; maybe it's overkill but it does have a higher MERV rating
